Where: Sacramento Fine Arts Center - 5330 Gibbons Dr B, Carmichael, CA 95608
When: March 27, 2027 | 9am -12pm
A believable sky sets the mood for an entire landscape. Learn how to paint smooth, atmospheric sky gradients and three-dimensional clouds that catch the golden glow of sunset without over-blending your colors into gray.
What We Will Do:
- Part 1 – The Warm-Up Activity: Practice blending a seamless wet-into-wet sky gradient that transitions from warm golden horizon light to cool upper-atmosphere blues without creating green mud.
- Part 2 – The 8'x10" Mini-Painting: Paint an expressive low-horizon cloudscape study. Learn how to give clouds flat bottoms, soft "lost" edges, and convincing volume.
Materials:
I ask students to bring their own supplies so that when the workshop ends, you have a familiar, working kit ready to go for practicing at home.
- Testing the waters? - If you're brand new to painting or want to try oil painting before investing in your own materials, I have studio supplies you can borrow for the session. (Please send me a quick note after registering so I can set aside supplies for you).
- Need help purchasing supplies? - Art stores can be overwhelming, so I've curated my recommended materials list to provide everything you need to get started without buying unnecessary supplies.
