Where: Sacramento Fine Arts Center - 5330 Gibbons Dr B, Carmichael, CA 95608
When: April 24, 2027 | 9am -12pm
Take the guesswork out of your palette and stop fighting with muddy paint. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how a simple split-primary palette allows you to mix clean, vibrant secondaries and luminous natural tones without needing dozens of expensive paint tubes.
What We Will Do:
- Part 1 – The Warm-Up Activity: Create a guided split-primary color chart showing how warm and cool primaries interact to create vivid greens, beautiful muted blues, and colorful darks.
- Part 2 – The 8'x10" Mini-Painting: Apply your new color-mixing toolkit to a simplified, apple study focusing on color transitions, clean light-to-shadow shifts, and fresh brushwork.
Materials:
I ask students to bring their own supplies so that when the workshop ends, you have a familiar, working kit ready to go for practicing at home.
- Testing the waters? - If you're brand new to painting or want to try oil painting before investing in your own materials, I have studio supplies you can borrow for the session. (Please send me a quick note after registering so I can set aside supplies for you).
- Need help purchasing supplies? - Art stores can be overwhelming, so I've curated my recommended materials list to provide everything you need to get started without buying unnecessary supplies.
